Please find a link here to a letter for our new Year 6 students and parents regarding their transition to KAA.
Parent Update – 21.06.17
The Senior Leadership Team at Kensington Aldridge Academy are overwhelmed with the community support we have received, as well as the attitude of our staff and, most importantly, our students since the tragic events of last week. Since Monday 19th June we have had in place a new timetable that has ensured all our students have been able to receive a full day of learning, and whilst all of those affected by the heart-breaking events last week have never been far from our minds, we are pleased that our students have continued to show excellence throughout the school day. KAA is now operating business as usual from Burlington Danes Academy and Latymer Upper School.
Year 7, 8 & 9 – Burlington Danes Academy, Wood Lane, Shepherd’s Bush, London, W2 0HR
Year 12 – Latymer Upper School, King St, Hammersmith, London W6 9LR
Please read our latest parent update for current KAA parents here.
Please see David Benson’s first letter to parents regarding the reopening here.
For those joining us in September, we are visiting all of our feeder primary schools in the coming weeks to talk with parents. More details regarding the latest transition events can be found here.
Principal’s Welcome – June 2017
Welcome to the Kensington Aldridge Academy (KAA) website.
Like many schools in this great community, we have had a challenging time over the past week following the Grenfell Tower fire that shut down our building and has caused such damage both physically and emotionally to our community.
However, we are confident that this event will make us stronger, both educationally and culturally. Since Monday we have had in place a new timetable that has ensured all our students have been able to receive a full day of learning, and whilst all of those affected by the heart-breaking events last week have never been far from our minds, we are pleased that our students have continued to show excellence throughout, including attendance of over 90%.
KAA is a growing 11 – 18 academy situated in the heart of North Kensington. We currently have 660 students in total; 540 in Years 7, 8 & 9 and 120 in Year 12. We will have 180 new Year 7s joining us in September alongside 120 new Year 12s. Their transition into our strong school community is important. With this in mind, we will be visiting our feeder primary schools over the coming week to discuss the transition with students, and we have rescheduled our Year 6 taster day and Year 6 parent evening for the Thursday 6th July at Google Headquarters and Year 11 academic induction day for the Friday 7th July at Latymer Upper School. We will provide travel arrangements for these events shortly.
For Y9 students and parents, please rest assured that their GCSE choices will not be affected. We will be hosting a Year 9 Options day, most likely at Burlington Danes Academy, on Saturday 1st July to provide an opportunity for parents and students to discuss their options with a member of the Senior Leadership Team, should they wish to do so, and writing to parents individually about this shortly.
Kensington Aldridge Academy was built to be part of the community, to serve members of that community and provide an education to its members. We have based our teaching and work on four values, two of which are very pertinent at this time, resilience and citizenship.
I am so proud of all our staff and students who, following the fire, went onto the streets and to rescue centres to volunteer and help, they showed true community spirit and citizenship. On top of this they have shown great resilience, the staff ensuring we could be up and running in a new location within days and students, who have continued their learning in difficult circumstances as well as support their fellow students. I hope the community can take strength from our resilience and citizenship as we have taken from theirs.
KAA is a school which has the very highest standards and these continue – both in terms of academic teaching and life beyond the classroom. In our first year the Department of Education reported we are “one of the best new academies they had ever seen” in terms of our planning and curriculum development. Miriam Rosen, former Chief Inspector of Ofsted, said, “KAA has got off to a remarkable start and is already securing highly positive outcomes for students.” We look forward to our first full Ofsted inspection in due course and aim to achieve ‘outstanding’ in all areas.
