Kensington Aldridge Academy will open in temporary buildings in September following the fire at Grenfell Tower in June, which is located directly next to the KAA building on Silchester Road.

KAA opened with a Year 7 cohort in September 2014, and we have been growing every year. Our Sixth Form opened in September 2016, and we celebrated the success of our first ever set of national results today.

We are confident that the state-of-the-art facilities at the temporary site will allow us to deliver the same high quality curriculum to the 960 students on roll from September 2017. It will have the same specialist classrooms we have on Silchester Road, including:

  • 8 science labs
  • 2 IT suites
  • 2 Art rooms
  • Food Technology room
  • 2 Design Technology workshops
  • Textiles room
  • Drama studio
  • Dance studio
  • 2 music rooms
  • 2 libraries
  • Autism centre

In addition to these specialist classrooms, the outdoor facilities at new building are, quite simply, incredible. As a result, we will be able to add pony riding, BMX, baseball and more to our enrichment programme. The Linford Christie Stadium is just a two minute walk away, and will provide a multitude of specialist sports facilities for our PE curriculum and enrichment activities.

The site of the temporary school will be on Scrubs Lane, next to Burlington Danes Academy, where our Year 7, 8 and 9 students had their lessons for the final 5 weeks of the summer term after the KAA building was closed on Wednesday 14th June as a result of the fire.

Students will begin timetabled lessons at the new, temporary school on Monday 18th September following a Residential Week beginning on Monday 11th September. We know that this will be a positive and motivating start to the year ahead, with our Sixth Form spending the week at Hertford College and Queen’s College, Oxford, and Key Stage 3 and 4 students attending residentials in Kent, Surrey, Weymouth and Wiltshire.

The building will replicate our KAA building from its specialist classrooms to its décor, helping our students feel confident and ready to learn in their new surroundings. Our temporary accommodation will serve as an inspiring environment in which KAA staff and students will continue to flourish over the coming academic year.
