Angelou wins House Debating!

The major house competition for Spring 2 was House Debating, hosted by the English Department.

Throughout the half term students have been preparing to debate the motions “This House believe that we should all be vegetarians”, “this House believes that zoos should be banned”, “this House believe that cancel culture does more harm than good” and “this House believe that the voting age should be lowered to 16”.

The finals took place in theatre on Thursday 3rd April, judged by Ms Jordan, Mr Wright, Mr Whitlock, Ms Cannan, Mr Gibbins, Mr Lo, Ms Stevens and Mr Jones. At the end of each debate, the judges revealed who won the debate nominated one student who particularly impressed as the “most valuable debater”. The award for “most valuable debater” in each debate went to Mayar (8 Bolton), Ella-Mae (7 Wilson), Maryam (10 Omari) and Luke (10 Mason).

Each student was scored on their use of argument, rebuttal and their overall style, with total scores added up at the end of the four debates to find the overall results:

Congratulations to our 2025 winners, Angelou! The 20,000 house points meant that Angelou finished the Spring 2 term just 4,155 points ahead of Pankhurst in second place.
