On Wednesday 26th March, Dominick (10 Knowles) competed in the Tri-Borough Music Hub’s “Future Sounds” competition — and won!

At just 14 years old, he went up against exceptional musicians as old as 18, many of whom attend specialist music colleges like The Rhythm Studio. Despite the fierce competition, he delivered an outstanding performance. The competition – open to performers from Kensington, Chelsea, Westminster, Hammersmith, and Fulham – began with auditions in January, where Dominick was one of approximately 40 students. By the finals, he was one of just seven incredible acts, including singers, bands, and producers.

Each finalist was required to perform one cover and one original song. Dominick’s cover was “I’m In Love With Another Man” by Jazmine Sullivan, which he performed solo with a backing track. His original song, “Coded In DNA”, was a deeply personal reflection on his experience growing up as a person of colour. For this performance, he was joined by fellow KAA students Irene (13 Maathai) and Violeta (10 Wonder) on backing vocals, Derin (11 Kafka) on acoustic guitar, and KAA music teacher Ms Ellington on piano and backing vocals.

The judging panel featured an incredible lineup of industry professionals, including Hollie Cook (singer), Big Zuu (rapper), Sharleen Spiteri (lead singer of Texas), and Will Champion (the drummer from Coldplay). They praised Dominick for his stage presence, vocal agility, elegant storytelling, and ability to tackle deeply personal themes with both passion and joy.

As the winner, Dominick has earned a recording session at 360 Studios in Ladbroke Grove—a studio that has worked with legends such as Paul McCartney, Rihanna, Dua Lipa, Madonna, One Direction, Stormzy, Lana Del Rey, Paolo Nutini, Charli XCX, Mark Ronson, and Florence & The Machine. Additionally, he will be invited to perform at various events with the Tri-Borough Music Hub and The Rhythm Studio over the next year.

Well done Dominick!
