Honeyball triumph in House Music
by Sue Hashemi on October 17, 2025 in Academy News
What an amazing, spectacular show we witnessed yesterday with our House Music competition! The KAA Choir kicked the show off with a rendition of “When you wish upon a star”. The effervescent Ms Ellington did a fantastic job of compering the competition, and treated us all to some impressive vocals from herself, whilst the Houses chose songs from Disney.
We were lucky enough to have four incredible judges, all with unique musical experiences. Maria Hernandez, KAA’s own piano teacher who currently works in the music industry as a singer songwriter and has collaborated with Cher. Jane Burns, our resident singing teacher who has worked with KAA since the very beginning and trained at the Brit school. Alfie Potter, a producer from ITV who also sings in a Gospel choir and Irene Gonzalez-Martinez, KAA Alumni who left last year having studied A Level music.
All Houses performed a medley of Disney songs with Angelou choosing Hercules, Franklin choosing The Lion King, Honeyball choosing Encanto and Pankhurst Frozen. The pupils all performed brilliantly with some impressive solos frrom Sematawi, Year 8 Franklin, Keziah, Year 10 Honeyball, Rochelle, Year 8 Angelou and Francisco, Year 7 also from Angelou. The judges remarked some performances were West End worthy and noted that a number of the songs were very difficult to sing.
Honeyball secured the win with their medley of Encanto songs, colourful outfits and impressive choreography. Pankhurst came second, Angelolu third and Franklin fourth. We salute all the Houses’ for their camaraderie, with a special thank you to the Heads of House and the PCA team for their impeccable organisation
