Kensington Aldridge Academy enjoys brilliant first AS results

Kensington Aldridge Academy are delighted to announce our first set of AS results as our “founder cohort” of Year 12s collected their results today, Thursday 17th August.

KAA is a new state school located in Notting Hill and partnered with top independent schools Goldophin & Latymer and Charterhouse. We opened with Year 7 in September 2014, and have been growing every year. In September we will have 960 students on roll.

The AS results – KAA’s first ever set of national exams – are an important milestone for the academy. We are delighted with how well students have performed:

– These AS grades indicate KAA is in the top 10% of UK Schools in terms of “value added”, with students getting on average one whole grade higher than national expectations.

61% of all entries graded A-C (42% A-B). The results will stand students in good stead for their all-important A2 exams next year.

– Some individual departments enjoyed exceptional success:

– English: 86% A-C (68% A-B)

– History: 80% A-C

– French: 88% A-C (75% A-B)

– Drama: 82% A-C

– Religious Studies: 100% A-C (89% A-B)

Principal, David Benson, said: “I could not be prouder of our students today. As our ‘founder cohort’ of sixth formers they are pioneers who had the courage to come and start an exceptional Sixth Form here in Notting Hill. These results underline the quality and standards we see in lessons every day. I was particularly pleased with our value added results, and the way students appear to be achieving a grade higher with us than they would elsewhere.”

Rob Pavey, Vice Principal – Sixth Form, added, “I am thrilled for our founder sixth form students, who have worked so hard and done so well today. They richly deserve their success, and I am sure would join me in thanking my colleagues who did so much to support and encourage them this year.”

KAA is based next to Grenfell Tower, and as a consequence of the fire has had to extend its summer holiday by one week to allow for new, temporary buildings to be finished (see details here). To help ensure any learning time is made up KAA has partnered with Oxford University to host a “Residential Week” from Monday 11th September – Friday 15th September. All Y12 and Y13 students will be staying and Hertford College and Queen’s College, Oxford, and be taught their A Level lessons in Oxford’s facilities. We are confident this will be a positive, aspirational start to the year for sixth formers and give us momentum for the year ahead.

Any new Y12 student who is holding an offer for KAA Sixth Form must attend enrolment day at Notting Hill Prep School (95 Lancaster Rd, London W11 1QQ) next Thursday 24th August. There are a limited number of spaces still available for students who meet our entry requirements. Year 11 students interested in joining KAA Sixth Form in September 2017 should contact us via email at sixthform@kaa.org.uk.
