Nepal Earthquake Appeal: Non-uniform day raises over £200

Yesterday KAA held a non-uniform day to raise money for the DEC Nepal Earthquake Appeal and Dididai. The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and their partners are working urgently to provide emergency shelter, food, clean water and blankets, followed by work to help Nepalese communities rebuild their lives. Dididai is a charity which supports the needs of children with disabilities living in Nepal’s largest orphanage. The total amount raised by our Year 7s was a fantastic £229.75, which will be split between the two charities.

During Morning Reading students read news articles and discussed how the money will help the people of Nepal. The sessions were a great start to the day and drew some very reflective, philosophical remarks from our students. Whilst discussing the question ‘why should we be helping Nepal?’ responses ranged from ‘because we don’t need a new pair of shoes or a playstation as much as they need food, medicine and shelter’ to the very simple ‘because it’s the right thing to do.’

A huge thank you to students and parents for their donations to the Nepal Earthquake Appeal.
