IMG_6367On Thursday 3rd March KAA celebrated World Book Day with assemblies and workshops delivered by author Tony Lee, a book ‘Shelfie’ quiz and some great fancy dress costumes!

Students were on the edge of their seats listening to Tony Lee’s hilarious and engaging talk about his journey to become a world famous writer of graphic novels, short stories and screenplays. He encouraged them to think about reading as they would TV;  if you don’t like what you’re reading, don’t give up on books altogether—just “change the channel”.

IMG_6415Students in 7T, 7U, 8T and 8U took part in story writing workshops with Tony, during which they explored ideas to do with character development and risk taking through fun group activities. He also spent break and lunch time surrounded by enthusiastic students wanting to ask him questions and show him their own graphic novel drawings. He even got the chance to look over Year 8 Leila’s draft novel!

The day featured a book ‘Shelfie’ quiz, where a £10 book token was up for grabs to the student who matched the most teachers with the correct photo of their bookshelf.  As well as this, every student was given a £1 World Book Day token, which they can use to get £1 off a book of their choice.

Students enjoyed seeing a slightly different side to some of their teachers on the day, with many KAA staff donning fancy dress for the occasion. Characters from the Hunger Games, The Great Gatsby and Diary of Wimpy Kid could be spotted wandering the halls, plus Mr. Patel as a very convincing Wolverine!IMG_6302
