European Day of Languages
by Vashti Turner on September 25, 2015 in Academy News MFL
Saturday 26th of September is the European Day of Languages, so today at KAA we celebrated the variety of languages and cultures at the academy.
Mrs Davies, Lead Teacher of Modern Foreign Languages, led a whole school assembly during which Parmida (8 Winfrey), Yusra (8 Simmons), and Ahmed (8 Balon) spoke to the school about the benefits of a multi-lingual community. A year 8 French class then demonstrated the huge range of languages they are already fluent in, including Portuguese, Arabic and Albanian to name a few!
During lunch time Mrs Davies and Miss Pedley ran European Language stalls, challenging students to work out how to say hello in all of the languages spoken by staff and students in the school. There was also a ‘Guess the Teacher’ game with merits for the most correct answers.
The European Day of Languages helped our students to reflect on the multilingual and multicultural community that we live in. The students really enjoyed learning about the linguistic variety at KAA!
