Honeyball take House Points lead in Aut1 Awards Assembly
by Vashti Turner on October 23, 2015 in House Competitions
This afternoon we had our first whole school end of half term award assembly to celebrate the achievements of our students over the past 8 weeks. Mr Benson and Mrs Tyrer, our parent governor, handed out prizes for Reader of the Half Term, Lexia Champion, Sportsmen and Sportswomen of the Term, as well as commendations, and silver, gold and Intrepidus merits. Special congratulations must go to Morgan (8 Berners-Lee) for showing intrepidus during German lessons, which earned her the sought after Intrepidus merit.
Honeyball won the house art and design competition for their fantastic representations of culture. Honeyball students were ecstatic about their first House Competition win of the year. Students created drawings, sculptures and other items that represented their heritage and community. Three finalists from each house were then judged by Mr Fitton, Ms John, Mr Malik and Mr Benson to decide on an overall winner. The sculpture created by Millie and Sydney was selected as the individual winning entry. Congratulations to the girls for their fantastic and creative entry!
The house competition proved crucial to the current House Points total – Honeyball’s win and the 2000 points it earnt them put them just 1325 points ahead of Franklin, who finished the half term in second place. Last year’s House Cup winners are not far behind in 3rd, and Angelou have not had the strong start they enjoyed last year. However, there is still a long way to go and all can change very quickly. Next half term’s House Competition will be House Charity.
Mr Fisher ended the assembly by leading a whole-school rendition of the school song ‘Sing’.
We wish all of our students a safe and happy half term. Students return to school on Wednesday 4th November. Enjoy the half term!
