Pankhurst victorious in House Music 2023!
by Vashti Turner on October 20, 2023 in House Competitions Music Performance and Creative Arts
On Thursday 19th October the house finals of the major competition for Autumn 1 took place in the academy theatre. Four industry judges scored the performances, and a particular highlight was Gillian Ford (West End Mamma Mia cast member) singing ‘The Winner Takes It All’ to open the show.
Pankhurst House secured a spectacular victory in our tenth annual House Music competition, which had the theme ‘West End Musicals’. Forty Pankhurst students from years 7-13 came together to sing a medley of songs from Hairspray, Little Shop of Horrors, Bugsy Malone, High School Musical and Matilda (all previous KAA productions). Big congratulations to Mr Rigby and Ms Ellington from the Music department, Ms Redford the Head of Pankhurst, and Gabriel (12 Sirleaf), Aarmi (9 Armstrong), Israa (8 Ali), Katori (8 Andrews) and Braxton (also 8 Andrews) who performed powerful solos in the piece.
The entire house music show from start to finish was fantastic. Franklin students performed a medley of West End biopic songs including Tina Turner, Elton John and Queen classics and placed fourth. Honeyball performed songs from the musical “Six” with over forteen soloists, and took third place. Angelou students sang a mash up of songs from “Hamilton”, whose London cast visited KAA to work with students back in 2019, and were placed second by our guest judges.
Pankhurst’s win has out them in the lead for the 2023-24 house cup at the end of the Autumn 1 term – well done Pankhurst!
