Match report by Miss Demeester
Last week was a busy time for the school Rounders teams with debut games for the Year 7 team.
On Wednesday 15th June the Year 8s attended a tournament at Burlington Danes Academy. Seven teams took part and the competition was fierce. Their first match was against Burlington Danes Academy and the team started by fielding. It took the team a little bit of time to warm up but soon the brilliant teamwork between backstop Jodie (8 Kidston) and Izzy (8 Kidston) on second base, helped to secure some outs. The team struggled when their turn came to bat and were unluckily caught out a couple of times. The game was a close finish but BDA came out on top.
Eager to improve, the team started off by batting against their next opponents, Hammersmith Academy. Brilliant fielding by Morgan (8 Berners-Lee) and Safiyah (8 Jobs) prevented lots of rounders however, our batting was not strong enough. The final match was rained off, but according to the scores we came out as 5th overall.
The following day the hungry year 8 team attended a fixture at Godolphin and Latymer. Ahead after the first innings, they worked tirelessly in the field to keep their opponents score down. With a great improvement on batting they managed to draw in a very close game.
Our newly formed year 7 team joined the Year 8s in the fixture at Godolphin and Latimer. The year 7s did not let limited experience dampen their enthusiasm and demonstrated excellent fielding throughout. Slow to score in the first innings, they improved greatly the second time round scoring double the amount of rounders. Whilst they did not win, it was the perfect warm up for their tournament against BDA this week.
At the BDA tournament they got off to a solid start winning their first match against West London Free School B team. Next they faced the West London Free School A team, Jainaba (7 Matisse) led the team with outstanding fielding at 4th base working tirelessly to get the ball. Whilst the fielding was brilliant throughout, the team’s lack of batting experience meant they could not keep up with the scoring and narrowly missed out on a second win.
Their final match was against Burlington Danes A team and it was an impressive game from both sides. The team had a target to score at least one whole rounder and they beat that by scoring 5 ½ in total. Mia (7 Hepburn) and Jannete (7 Baker) were put to work in the outfield and sprinted continuously to get the ball, but the other side’s strong batting ability meant we did not grasp the win. However, the team were in high spirits after improving tremendously with only a little practice. They are keen to return next year with more experience.
