Match report by Mr Hajjaj
Spirits were high at the first Y8 football match of the season, a cup game where early elimination loomed. A hat-trick from Bilal El-Harrak (8 Berners-Lee) helped KAA take a giant leap into the second round of the English School’s Cup with a 5-4 win away from home to Bacon’s College.
A goal up and with Bacon’s College aggressively pushing forward, the KAA goalkeeper Michael Williams (8 Berners-Lee) – who claimed his stakes as Man of the Match – found himself in a 1 v 1 situation against the opposition’s number nine. Commanding his area, he pulled off one of several fantastic saves tapping the ball onto the bar to ensure KAA kept the lead. However, the lead was short lived when the opposition scored two goals in 10 minutes putting them ahead at the break.
After a cagey start to the second half, substitute Sebastian Morales (8 Winfrey) equalised with his first touch of the game with a rocket header crashing into the top of the net.
A moment of brilliance from Bilal Bakali (8 Jobs) saw KAA retake the lead with an exquisite curling shot around the wall and into the top corner.
KAA keeper Michael was yet again called to action when Bacon’s College struck the bar for the second time. The ball fell generously to their in form striker. With the shot goal-bound, Michael managed to make the goal look small by rushing out, staying on his feet and pushing the ball wide.
Despite the opposition’s fans bellowing chants of support for their team, and with the score equal at 4-4, our boys displayed resilience and true KAA spirit. The players rose to the challenge and seized the moment, elegantly breaking out of defence with a sequence of good passes, freeing Bilal E to accelerate past their towering defender to slot home the winner and secure victory.
Congratulations to the team and we look forward to the next round of the English School’s Cup.
