Pankhurst win House Dance 2023!

The major house competition in the spring 1 term was House Dance, with the finals taking place on Thursday 9th February.

The competition this year challenged each house to create a dance piece inspired by recent news headlines. Angleou’s told the story of the England Lions and Lionesses football journeys in 2022. Franklin’s celebrated the return of the Nottinghill Carnival after several COVID cancellations. Honeyball’s focused on the rise of streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime. Pankhurst celebrated the NHS by depicting the nursing strikes currently in the news.

During the finals, the students (over 120 in total!) performed three times, to an audience of Year 9, Year 8 and Year 7. The final performance to Year 7 was in front of our external judges from our partners at the Royal Academy of Dance and ITV.

Huge congratulations to Pankhurst on being placed first for their NHS-strike inspired choreography, winning 20,000 house points. Angelou placed second for 15,000 house points with their dance which depicted the racism faced by England team members this year, all the way to the celebrations of the Lionesses” Euros win in the summer. The competition was so tight that there was a tie for third place between Honeyball and Franklin, each taking home 10,000 house points.

The results were announced during tutor time on the final day of term, and along with all the points earned for merits, commendations, attendance, interim competitions and academic awards, it was announced that Pankhurst had now overtaken Honeyball to take the lead at the end of the half term. Well done Pankhurst!
