Creates Day
by Vashti Turner on July 16, 2015 in Creativity Entrepreneurship
On Thursday 9th July we held our first whole school Creates Day. Our strong entrepreneurial focus is strengthened by ensuring all of our students benefit from the experience of our Kensington Creates entrepreneurs. Throughout the day volunteers from Goldman Sachs worked with KAA students as they developed their business ideas. Entrepreneurs from Third Space Learning and Finchittida, both based in the school, acted as judges during the final business pitches.
The brief for this very first Creates Day was to design a secondary school, taking into consideration location, brand and ethos. Students took part in three workshops to design their school’s brand and logo, choose a suitable location and building design, and create their own school rules. Students spent the day working on their designs in teams of four with a focus on entrepreneurial skills such as teamwork, communication and resilience.
Project consultants from Goldman Sachs were on hand to challenge ideas and help students to justify their choices. Each team had to pitch their idea to their form class and then the winning teams presented again in assembly.
The winning team of René, Milan, Ahmed O and Marwan designed an eco-friendly school, based in Shanghai in China and called it One Step Academy (OSA). The school had a flexible timetable which would be adjusted to students health and specialise in modern technology, for example students would wear special watches which tracked their health.
Our first Creates Day was a huge success and we look forward to more entrepreneurial days next year. Many thanks to the volunteers from Goldman Sachs for their input and support in the workshops throughout the day.
